Microsoft Security Essentials Final

Posted by blacknoise 30 September, 2009 (9) Comment

MSE-final

Microsoft Security Essentials final was released to the public today. Microsoft Security Essentials is a much more advanced version of Windows live one care. What’s good about this is its detection rate is high, scan performance is very good, uses less resources and it also has a very low false positive rate making it a very good security product.

Before installing make sure to remove any other antivirus or security program that is installed already.

The final comes as a free download and will also include free updates. MSE is compatible with Windows XP 32bit, Vista and Windows 7 (32bit/64bit).

PeerBlock r162: Includes signed driver!

Posted by blacknoise 23 September, 2009 (0) Comment

peerblockr162

Earlier we posted about a Peerguardian alternative that works with Vista and Windows 7, well here it is again only this time its better than ever. PeerBlock succeeded what Peerguardian started years ago and now has a signed driver. So what does the signed driver do??.. What it does is now there won’t be anymore issues getting PeerBlock to work in Windows 7 and Vista x64 systems.  This version of PeerBlock named r162 as an “Interim Release” is probably going to be the last RC version as the next is going to be the final. Also it has to be mentioned that r162 has lots of bugfixes(according to its developers all the “show stopping bugs” have been fixed) and new features have been added.

The change log is pretty big so to put it in brief the main improvements are:

  • Automatic Run As Admin in Win7 and Vista.
  • Signed driver
  • Switch to iblocklist lists
  • Tweaked List Manager Interface
  • Verification of Block lists after download

For the full list of changes see below or check out the PeerBlock Developer site.

Peer Block – A Peerguardian 2 Alternative

Posted by blacknoise 8 August, 2009 (10) Comment

peerblock092r86

Peerguardian is a security tool that blocks certain IP ranges that has been added to its block lists. But Peerguardian has major issues when it comes to Vista and Windows 7. Although a RC test version was developed by Phoenix Labs it crashes and freezes most of the time not to mention its blocking ability getting disabled without reason.

Peer Block is similar to Peerguardian in fact its a branch of PG2, only with less bugs. This is due to Peer Block development being much more active than PG2. The driver signing issue in x64 is still there as a signed driver is required for proper functionality without workarounds, for which they are currently collecting funds. Check out their site or blog for more info.

Kaspersky Mobile Security 8

Posted by blacknoise 29 June, 2009 (1) Comment

kms_8

Kaspersky has released its  Mobile Security version 8. It has some very powerful features such as call/SMS filtering, parental control, firewall, data encryption and theft protection, where a user can send a SMS to a stolen/lost phone to block access to the phone or find the location of the phone using GPS.

Feature List

Anti-Theft

Kaspersky Mobile Security prevents user data from falling into the wrong hands, regardless of whether a Smartphone is lost or stolen.

  • SMS-Block: If your Smartphone is lost or stolen, you can prevent your personal data from falling into the wrong hands by blocking the Smartphone remotely. Simply send an SMS with a predefined code word to the lost device. To unblock the Smartphone, a password that only you know needs to be entered.
  • SMS-Find: You can locate your phone using SMS Find. Just send an SMS with a password to the lost device and you will receive a link to Google Maps (as soon as a GPS connection is established)* with the exact coordinates. Once you know the whereabouts of your phone, it should be clear if it was stolen or just left somewhere.
  • SMS-Clean: If it’s clear that your Smartphone has been stolen and there’s no chance of getting it back, you can send an SMS with a predefined code to delete all the data stored on the device.
  • SIM Watch: If someone removes the SIM from your Smartphone, the device is automatically blocked and if a new SIM is inserted, SIM Watch will immediately send you a message with the phone’s new number.

Microsoft Security Essentials – A Security Suite From Microsoft

Posted by Joel 27 June, 2009 (0) Comment

Security_Essentials

Finally Microsoft has grown out of their stupid security products like Live OneCare, and Live Security Scanner to produce a real security suite which can detect Trojans, worms and other malicious stuff in your pc. AV-Test Labs has put this to the testing and the results are pretty astonishing, it has detected most of the malicious things they threw at it. And did not detect any false positives, this also supposedly detects root kits which is awesome news for all out there, and if Microsoft releases this as a freeware, then this might well become the a superb competitor for Comodo security suite. This uses the Microsoft Cloud platform, but the definition databases are stored in the local machine to increase the speed. Yet we need to see how this handles and works in the real world. With an average everyday user. Expect a full review from us soon, which focuses on user friendliness and other aspects from the point of a user. For now here it is for your download.

BitDefender antivirus 2009 free 1 year license key

Posted by Thomas 27 November, 2008 (54) Comment

Hi there. Previously I had a chat over msn with joel aka theWizard-the big boss here  . We discussed weather we should post this article or not. Well we decided to. It is about Free and genuine license key for BitDefender antivirus 2009. I tried this method and can verify it actually works. I got free serial key and many other people as well by simply filling in the online request form.  I was of course a bit suspicious or rather curious about this free offer, especially because offer is located on a Chinese website, so I ran an antivirus test of that page with two diferent antivirus web-scanners. First with Browser Defender and than with Linkscanner. From both I got warnings and strange results. I do not know weather this is only a false positive or not, but I feel like I must warn you if you try to take this offer. Probably if you have a patched browser and a good firewall there is no worries, except that you may gradually get some more spam in your inbox. Or not.
