Microsoft Office 2007: Integrate SP1 and Customize your product

Posted by blacknoise 18 April, 2009 (1) Comment

In this tutorial I’ll be teaching you how to add Office SP1 into your existing MS Office and how to make add your details and product key into it so that typing it at install time is not necessary.

First of all you will be needing a copy of Office 2007 and the service pack 1 for Office 2007.

1. Office 2007 – http://trial.trymicrosoftoffice.com/wwtrial/default.aspx?culture=en-GB (60 day trial version; you will need to purchase to get a valid key)

2. Office 2007 Service Pack 1

Adding Service Pack 1 into Office 2007

1. Create a temp folder and copy all the content of Office 2007 into it

osp1-01

2. Now we need to add the service pack. This is easy all you need to do is add the extracted .MSP files into the folder named “Updates” in the office 2007 folder. To extract the files inside office sp1 (office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe) use one the following commands

office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:C:\Office07\Updates

or

office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract

in my case these would be

E:\>office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:E:\Office07\Updates

E:\>office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract

the first command will extract the files to the given path while the second one will prompt you for the path. And in both cases you will get a license agreement window, click i agree and press continue. Now the files will be extracted to where you have specified.

osp1-02

By using this method you can add any hotfix to your office 2007 copy.

3. Copy the extracted files into the “Updates” folder

Now SP1 or any other hotfix you’ve added will be installed automatically.

Go-oo

Posted by Thomas 17 November, 2008 (3) Comment

OpenOffice 3 has been out for a while now. I was very eager back in a time to come out of beta development but when it finally came out I was a bit disappointed. True it supports latest Microsoft office format and is kind of a better looking than previous version……but performance is quite slow. I do not know why but it seems there is a tendency in building bulky and resource-hungry applications! Does not we want fast and good-looking software? Maybe all those developers have quad-cores up there and they forget there are people outside still using old computers.

Go-oo is modified version of OpenOffice 3 with performance in mind. Developers claim Go-oo uses less memory, starts up faster, better supports Microsoft binary and processes faster than original version of OpenOffice 3. The best of all is its $0 priced.
I noticed faster import of Microsoft documents and application launch time but I must say I saw some Microsoft office 2007 compatibility bugs which by the way are also in original OpenOffice suite.
Nevertheless for those who do not want to pay for office software it is a nice free alternative to Microsoft which does the job equally well then original OO version, but faster.

compatibility: Windows and Linux

Methods to open .docx files

Posted by Joel 26 January, 2008 (1) Comment

Microsoft introduced the .docx format in Word 2007 which came along packaged with Office 2007. As an answer to the older more used .doc format, but the problem in this change is still most of us prefer .doc format and most of us still use it. So this makes life difficult for a office 2007 user and a .docx format document reader therefore Microsoft has introduced some converters and filters for the older versions (Office 97-2003) so that they read the newer version (Office 2007) documents.

Here I would like to give you details about some conversion methods which will enable you to read Office 2007 documents in OpenOffice or Office 97-2003 or even in a MAC.
