Google Chrome OS UI Concept Video (REAL)

Posted by Meena Bassem 20 November, 2009 (4) Comment

Finally a real video for the Chrome OS

Google did a press event demoing their Chrome OS. Here’s what we know about Chrome OS:

  • It will be launched next year (they wanted to cash in on Microsoft’s PDC09. Cheapos!)
  • It’s ONLY meant for Netbooks.
  • The OS looks exactly like the Chrome browser.
  • It’ll be locked to the hardware, like Apple the OS will come bundled on Netbooks.
  • It is an Open Source project and bits are available for developers now.
  • It is based on Debian. It’s basically just another Linux distro.
  • Everything you do will be stored online. Notes and documents will be synced to Google Docs.
  • No native applications.
  • The current build can be compiled and installed on any machine.
  • An App store is likely & no word on weather it will support Android apps, nothing certain but maybe.

Here is the Google Chrome OS Youtube Channel

Google Chrome Offline Installer (From Google)

Posted by Joel 31 August, 2009 (2) Comment

Google-chrome

Previously we posted on how to get the offline installer of Google Chrome by looking at the build and finding the file path and directly downloading it from the Google servers. Well no need to follow that here after coz now Google themselves have seen the need for an offline installer and created distributing their own. Its as easy as visiting a page and accepting a license agreement. Keep this page Bookmarked for future releases of chrome. But one downside is that Auto-Update does not work with the offline installer therefore you need to manually check for updates.

Google Chrome OS Screenshots (unconfirmed)

Posted by Joel 22 August, 2009 (6) Comment

chromeosresized.jpg

Recently Mashable.com released some screenshots of Google chrome OS. According to them these are yet to be confirmed anyway here are those screenshots for you to see. But assuming that they are real, well I kind of like them, they are following the same concept of the Chrome Browser and keeping everything simple yet elegant. But what I’m sure is that it will take them quite a bit of time (may I be bold enough to say years) to reach the functionality and UI which will allow them to take Windows 7. Anyways have a look at them and decide for yourself. In my opinion they look pretty original.

Search Google in English No Matter Where You Are

Posted by Joel 20 June, 2009 (0) Comment

Google’s country redirection can be a huge nuisance when you are in a hurry and want to search something in English. If you are in any other country than US you might end up in a page where everything looks awkward. A page like this (this is in UAE):

google eng search1

To get rid of this annoyance. Remove the default Google plug-in and add the Google US search plug-in from the MyCroft project page.

If you are using a browser plug-in for search, get the below plug-in or another one you prefer from the MyCroft Search plug-ins page.

Google US Search

If you are searching from Google by going to Google.com, this no longer works because it will redirect to your country’s domain.
To search without redirection use

http://google.com/ncr OR
http://google.com/webhp
