Nero 9 Free Edition
Nero 9 is mostly known for being bloatware rather than being a reliable user friendly disk burning software, sadly Nero was all that several years ago. Recently Nero has introduced a new version of Nero 9 that is free and 54MB in size. This version is a stripped down version of Nero 9 ultra and consists of Disk burning and disk copying components. And that actually is a good thing compared to the whatnots that come bundled with the other versions. So basically the free version is Nero Essentials that come bundled with most CD/DVD writers these days. However I still don’t think the free version will be a success as you will need to submit an email address to get the download link(that seems ok) but they messed it all up adding the Ask toolbar which comes as an optional component during install. All Eset users will find out that the Antivirus flags it as a “potentially unwanted application”.
SpaceSniffer – Find What Takes Your Disk Space
When you buy a new pc, everything is fine and there is ample space in your C drive and all other drives. Give some time and a lot of disk use and you will have warnings and slow disk access speeds due to the reason that the disks are getting full and the space is clogged up.
So finally one good day you want to clean the unnecessary stuff or burn/transfer them to secondary storage devices such as optical drives or portable hard drives. So how do you find out what takes the lost space? Well this is where SpaceSniffer comes to the picture. It’s a small portable application which scans the whole disk and shows the disk layout in a tree type visualization. Its quite hard to really visualize every folder that takes up the space of the disk, but this software has done a great job in generating a visual output of how each and every folder takes the space (see screenshot below). Also you can click on the green star to include or exclude the remaining free space on the map. This software is small and very easy to use, and is bundled with a amazing list of features and most of all its FREE.

But because I intended to stay there for a few days, I really wanted to surf the internet somehow. So I used google and came across an interesting application that promised to do exactly what I needed. To browse internet offline. Pretty cool huh

Recently I discovered a special offer from Avanquest software maker. From the 1st until the 24th December they will be giving away free software gifts. I cannot tell what this software is going to be. It is a surprise, but today they offer fix-it utilities 7 express you probably know about. But in case you do not, fix-it utilities is a suit of maintenance tools for windows, such is registry cleaning, erasing etc. A great tool if you want everything in one suit. Especially for free.
