AdSweep : Totally Block ads in Chrome

AdBlockPlus is one of the most popular plug-in for Firefox, but recently after the massive popularity of Chrome, people like you and me have started to wonder if annoying ads can be blocked by some similar method in Chrome, until now there has not been a proper method to do that, (NO I’m not talking about the earlier bookmarklet method). A Chrome plug-in (yes, a plug-in) called AdSweep does the ABP type blocking for you, if you are using Chrome and dying for a way to know how to use that on your installation of Chrome, I’m happy as always to give you a full walkthrough with screenshots.
Install Google Chrome (Obviously)…
Switch to the Developer Version of Chrome, you need the Dev version of Chrome for Ad blocking to work.
Use the Dev Channel Switcher given in the link and switch Chrome to Dev edition and reopen chrome and update chrome. To do this you have to click on the wrench icon in chrome and go to about chrome and it will automatically check for updates and update you to the latest Dev edition of Google chrome.
Remove ads from Yahoo Messenger 8 and 9
Recently the Yahoo Messenger 9 was released, and at once it was clear that all add removing techniques which were used in the older builds, like version 8.x (early builds) became obsolete.
The new versions were more resistant to patching. Therefore they needed some more fiddling around and finally there is a patch which can be used by all to remove the annoying ads from this messenger, like the previous technique this is also a registry hack but it has more to do than registry hack, it makes the yahoo ads cache read only so new ads will not load after the patching process.
Use Ad-Block With Opera
Recently I talked about Opera and its wonderful features and how it lacked in ad-blocking facilities, but finally I found a way to block ads in Opera.
The most easiest way in a browser to block almost any type of ads is to block JavaScript and IFrames globally and enable this for sites in individual basis. Since this is a hassle and takes up a lot of time, the other method is to create individual blocks for various ad types using the Opera urlfilter file.
Edit the urlfilter file
In some cases the urlfilter file will not have the [exclude] section. In that case please create one and add the following Optimized filter below.
Also I would like to advise you to keep the urlfilter file size to minimal, a large file with a lot of entries will slow down Opera start times considerably. You will get blank page if you try to visit a site blocked by content blocker.
From Opera 9.50, you can enable/disable content blocker globally using Block ads button or per site basis using site preferences.
