Spyware Doctor is one of the best antispyware products available to us. It has been given many awards for its detection rate, consistent updates(which are small in size), spyware removal and less false positives. The only problem was it had only paid versions available. But now since partnering with Google there’s a new “Starter Edition” which is given free with Google-packs.

The new starter edition, like most “free” software doesn’t have some of the features available in the paid version (but that is to be expected since its given free).

The features not available in the free version are:

Startup Guard

Browser Guard

Process Guard

Cookie Guard

Keylogger Guard

Network Guard

Site Guard

Priority support

Phone support

So its not bad for a free product…

How to install

Downloading is where it sucks, you need to use Google packs to download the thing but fortunately Google packs can be removed after installing what you want.

To download go to Google Packs web site select Spyware Doctor, download the Google pack installer and download the software from it.(later you can uninstall the updater safely)

Download Google Packs

If you want to keep the downloaded installer for later use follow the instructions given below.

1. Download Google-pack after selecting the software you want.

2. Run the program and let it download

3. Browse to the following location (keep in mind that you have to do this quickly before the downloading software gets installed because the Google updater deletes it once its installed)

C:\ProgramData\Google Updater\cache (for vista)

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Google Updater\cache (for XP)

4. There should be a file with a .tmp extension. Now once the download is finished and the program is installing this .tmp changes to the setup file(.msi, .exe….), at that moment make sure to copy that file somewhere else.

nice one dude!

who even cares about those stupid guards…all they do is eat up ram…and I can’t see any use for them since Firefox is almost spyware-proof ;)

hmm yeah about the ram usage(takes about 70-100mb when operational), its very high but helpful if already infected and want to remove them..

also keep in mind spyware can come in downloaded stuff as well :D
