SimplyIcon is a standalone freeware program that lets you covert images into the icon “.ico” format. What makes this program stand out from the other icon generators is the ability to work as a portable app, drag and drop support and default support for 16×16, 24×24, 32×32 sizes. Additionally it also does support 128×128 if the source image dimensions are over or exactly 128×128 pixels.

Usage: All you need to do is run the program drag and drop any image you want converted and it will create the ico file in the same directory as the source image.

So this probably is the easiest way to create icons without using online converters or large programs but since this is coded using .net it will require the .net framework, which isn’t much of an issue these days as most users have it.

Thanks for the tip. I have used Paint.NET with the ico file extention plugin installed in the past. SimplyIcon would be handy because it is portable. Other wise I think that Paint.NET is a more powerful tool :) Thanks again!

Very nice program, thanks a lot for sharing! Easier to use than gimp, paint or photoshop for icons!
