Jing Project

Previously I wrote about Windows Vista built-in screen capturing tool. But sometimes desktop-taken pictures are not enough and we need more. Something like screen recording. And this is exactly what Jing is all about.

I discovered this free program a few months ago and it stood out from the crowd of similar programs by offering outstanding quality screen-capturing and screen-casting capabilities. I made a few audio-video tutorials of my desktop with this nice application and stored them on Jing storage-provided website for further public accessing. I even sent public link of stored video to my friend so that he could see what that video was all about. And it simply worked.

So if you are one of those to whom all friends come when they have computer-related problems, you can now surprise them by sending them complete tutorial of HOW TO… video link, so they can do it themselves by watching your tutorials.

Jing comes in free and paid version. Free version has a slight drawback though. It offers you to record videos of up to 5 minutes max (though you can make several 5-minute videos). If you need more than that, you will have to go for paid version $14.95/year of the same program.

8) Looks very interesting!
Have you tried recording in-game video’s?
Fraps-FREE has a 30sec limit,but has no problems
with 1650X1080,and afaik even with 1920×1200…

@One: Hi. No, I have not tried to record any game. I am no gamer actually. But to tell you the truth, I doubt this is appropriate for recording high-frame videos like games for example. It is rather slow for that. As a matter of fact all similar programs have problems capturing high frames pictures (videos). If you wanna capture games and do not have camcorder, try to use camera with video recording capabilities.
I have never tried Fraps. But resolution support you say it supports seems great.
take care

I’ve taken a more close-up look at Jing now,
and I’m a bit dissapointed:it has rather limited use :( :
swf-ONLY capturing, and no way of editing whatsoever!
The payed version is ridiculously expensive at $100 a year, even with mpeg4
capturing!

TechSmith Corporation uses the (kind’a) same technology as a 8) French site,
that provides services for PICs&video-albums with VERY high PIC-resolutions,
but ALSO comes with a very sophisticated off-line editor!
They also offer FREE 2GB accounts, with unlimited storage-time,
as long as you login once a year!
Very much worth a visit:
http://www.zoomorama.com/

(you could also make an album there with Jing-video’s!+annotations&more!)
