If you have Firefox and you get an “AUS: Update XML File Not Found (404)” error when you try to update then read on. I recently got this error and couldn’t find any solutions. First i thought it must be Firefox so i even tried re-installing but no luck what so ever. The only change I have made recently is to switch to NOD 32 antivirus (used Avast earlier). After much trial and error I found out that the Web filtering module is interfering with the update. I believe there are similar problems with Kaspersky also but since i have Nod32 here’s how to disable filtering and update Firefox.

1. Open NOD32 AV and press F5 to bring up the settings screen

2. Go to Web access protection –> HTTP,HTTPS and click the “Do not use HTTPS Protocol filtering” radio button (see screen shot)

3. Press ok and try to update Firefox again

4. Make sure to enable HTTPS Protocol filtering after the update has finished

Note: As you can see in the image above Firefox 3.0.10 is out. As for the changes it only fixes some security issues and bugs found in the earlier version. For the complete changelog  and download click the below link.
