Browser Defender

Browser Defender toolbar is a useful free Firefox and Internet Explorer add-on that protects and informs you of websites, that uses phishing techniques, excessive pop-ups, malware and browser exploits that tries to sneak into your computer through internet browser. It does this by scanning every webpage for malware and than ranks searchresults with green, yellow and red marks. Green means safe site, while red means that there is a high risk of infection.

It is currently in beta stage and it works much like Mcafee siteadvisor or linkscanner. Toolbar resides on top of your browser and while scanning webpage for signs of infection it changes color from grey to green. It looks so beautiful while in action. There are two cons though. On certain webpages you might see a short time delay due to scanning the webcontent. The other misfortune is that Browser Defender seems like it can not open certain web pages. I only hope that developers will patch this in next version release. Otherwise product is developed by Pctools the author of previously mentioned ThreatFire. Browser Defender is by no means meant to be a replacement for HIPS or antivirus it is just an additional Firefox and IE add-on that lets you know whether you are surfing the “dangerous” grounds or not. At the time, I am unable to tell you how effective it is. In this category of programs, every one excells in recognising diffrent threats. While mcafee siteadvisor would recognise more webpages that contain malware, on the other hand haute sucure will recognise more phishing sites.

requirements: Windows? 2000, XP and Vista? (32-bit and 64-bit), Firefox 2+, IE 5.5+

This program is great. I also use McAfee SiteAdvisor which is also an addon for mozilla firefox and IE. It’s also a popular addon and works well. Thanks for this post! :D

I previously used Mcafee site advisor, but now im in love with this superb toolbar, coz Mcafee siteadvisor adds little bit more memory footprint and its not good looking. but this changes the memory footprint so little its negliable and this is absolutely good looking :)

    Love it :)

Guys. I did some analyzing. If your Bd turns from green to red, click the toolbar. It will redirect you to Browser Defender webpage and showed you EXACTLY why it turned red, what is this suspicious item that makes that page dangerous (maybe trojan), and also what kind of changes that malicious item would do to your computer, including registry changes shown in pictures. It blows your mind away and give you control over a decision whether they are right or just picked up a false positive on certain webpage. Breathtaking presentation. Never seen anything like that before.
