Remove ads from Live Messenger without patches – Method 3
This is the third method I am going to tell you on how to remove ads from windows live messenger. In fact I did not find this, this was sent to me by one of our site users called qqman (all credit to him and Simon Ericsson).
First of all checkout the 1st and the 2nd methods.
Remove ads in Live Messenger without Patches Method 1
Remove ads in Live Messenger without Patches Method 2
Now for the third method – To remove ads in chat windows:
- Launch IE7 (If you have IE6 then its high time you get IE7)
- Click Tools, select ?Internet Options?
- Select the ?Security? tab
- Select the ?Restricted Sites? icon (the red one to the extreme right).

- Click on the ?Sites? button.
- Type in ?http://rad.msn.com? (without the quotations) in the text field.
- Click ?Add?. Click ?Close?. Click ?OK?.
- Exit Internet Explorer.
- Go to \Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
- Open up ?hosts.ics? with Notepad (Note: This file might be assigned to open with Microsoft Outlook Express or whatever else; if so then right click on hosts.ics > click properties > Near where it says ?Opens with:? there?s a button to the right which shows a button called ?Change?? > click on that > select Notepad from the list, click OK > click OK again > now just double click the hosts.ics file to open it
- Add this line to the end of the text:
127.0.0.1 rad.msn.com
Click File > Save
Click File > Exit - A couple of quick things: I noticed that the display picture on WLM is reset to the default that?s provided (the rubber duck or whatever) after you do follow those steps I just mentioned. If you want to keep
your display picture as it is when you log back in to WLM, do the following:
Launch WLM. Sign in to WLM. From the menu click on ?Tools?, click on Options? (if you don?t see the menu, press the ?Alt? key on the WLM main window)
Select ?General? (should be there to the left, just under ?Personal?). Make sure that the box beside ?Use the same display picture and personal message wherever I sign in.? IS SELECTED/CHECKED IN. Click OK.
And then set your display picture to whatever you like and you should be good.
