Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 coming this year

Posted by Jaddis 12 March, 2010 (0) Comment

As successful as Windows 7 has been, everyone has been wondering when Microsoft will release Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. This has been particularly true for many corporations which make it a point to migrate to a new Microsoft operating system only after the first service pack is issued (though as many of you know a lot of corporations are still using XP or later).

According the Malaysian website TechARP.com Microsoft initially planned a long 22 month development period for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Then the issue of a few serious bugs that would adversely affect performance in certain scenarios came to the surface. Microsoft has fixed some of them via patches, but these bugs made them push the SP1 deadline forward. Read the rest of this entry

Windows 7 In A Box – A Companion For A Windows 7 Newbie

Posted by Joel 18 November, 2009 (0) Comment

Now that Windows 7 is gaining major popularity in the market, there are a lot of people switching to it. Although the UI will be easy for the people who switch from Vista, but for the ones who switch from XP or Linux it will be hard to get used to at start. Considering this, the author of BigDaddyDesign has made a small desktop companion which will launch all windows settings with just two mouse clicks.

This utility/companion is called Windows 7 in a box. This is very very useful for a person finding it difficult to adapt to the new menu style and navigation in Windows 7.

Automate your download from File Hosting Sites with Mipony

Posted by techyie 17 November, 2009 (4) Comment

MiponyMain

When we download from file hosting sites such as rapidshare, the one thing which frustrates us usually is the waiting time imposed on us and the time limit set for free users before downloading another file. Monitoring all these things can be a tiresome issue especially if you have other works to do and just can keep focused on the download itself.

There is lots of software available around that resolves this issue, but Mipony is one of them which really stands out.

Mipony is a software specially designed to download easily files from free hosting pages like Rapidshare and Megaupload. It bypasses filling captchas, allows to download files in queue or multiple files from various servers at a time. What more included in this software is an integrated web browser with Link Detection feature; with which you can add a list of files in download queue. It works with both Free and Premium download account.

Windows 7 vs. Windows Vista

Posted by Bob Newman 6 November, 2009 (2) Comment

vistawin7

Windows 7 is the latest brainchild of Computer billionaire Bill Gates. It was made for a specific reason, which is to replace the enormous faults of Windows vista such as speed, usage of ram, space taken and the cost.

First let’s tackle speed. At any test, windows 7 has bested windows vista based on speed. Vista has had problems including reducing the performance of the computer since its beginning. For example windows vista mainly requires at least a 1 GB ram to function properly, while Windows 7 has only a 756 Mb ram necessity. I have tested windows 7 beta version in a laptop which has a 756 Mb ram and it still works perfectly, while in the same computer vista was lagging quite a bit.
The Space required for vista and the space required for windows 7 is almost the same. This region has a slight improvement but not greatly.

ABK Freeware File Extension Changer .NET Solves All Your File Extension-Changing Troubles!

Posted by techyie 31 October, 2009 (1) Comment

Have you ever come across any situation where you wanted to change the file extension types of certain files or folders? I do, and I come across situations like this a lot of times.

For example, my friend once sent me a Word file of Microsoft Office 2007, on which I accessed it on a computer with Office 2003 installed (which could not open Office 2007 files). Since I wanted to do some editing of her work immediately, I was forced to change the file extension of the word file from .docx to .doc just to open the file. There are also other examples in my life, like changing an audio file from .mp4 to .mp3, a video file from .avi to .wmv and many more.

PeerBlock r162: Includes signed driver!

Posted by blacknoise 23 September, 2009 (0) Comment

peerblockr162

Earlier we posted about a Peerguardian alternative that works with Vista and Windows 7, well here it is again only this time its better than ever. PeerBlock succeeded what Peerguardian started years ago and now has a signed driver. So what does the signed driver do??.. What it does is now there won’t be anymore issues getting PeerBlock to work in Windows 7 and Vista x64 systems.  This version of PeerBlock named r162 as an “Interim Release” is probably going to be the last RC version as the next is going to be the final. Also it has to be mentioned that r162 has lots of bugfixes(according to its developers all the “show stopping bugs” have been fixed) and new features have been added.

The change log is pretty big so to put it in brief the main improvements are:

  • Automatic Run As Admin in Win7 and Vista.
  • Signed driver
  • Switch to iblocklist lists
  • Tweaked List Manager Interface
  • Verification of Block lists after download

For the full list of changes see below or check out the PeerBlock Developer site.

Fix: Unable to install Daemon tools on Windows 7

Posted by blacknoise 24 August, 2009 (8) Comment

Daemon-Tools-Lite

Daemon tools had issues with its SPTD driver installation in Windows 7 earlier builds. This was fixed up to an extent with their 4.30 Lite update that includes version 1.58 of the SPTD driver.

Currently the problem most people are facing with daemon tools is that after an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 or from Windows 7 to another new build, completely breaks the Daemon tools installation. And what’s worse is that even if you try to re-install it will keep asking to reboot endlessly. Earlier I upgraded a Vista installation to Windows 7 and faced the same problem myself, after trying various methods I finally managed to (re)install Daemon tools properly.

According to the Daemon tools site you can try to use the SPTD driver installer to uninstall DT, but it didn’t work out at all. So here’s what you should do to get Daemon tools working.

Since Microsoft Said that they will release the Windows 7 RTM build to the public in October 22nd, but before that they promised to release it to the TechNet community. What if you are not part of the TechNet community and could not wait?

Well here are some links for you to download the original untouched Windows 7 RTM (build 7600) ISO. But after downloading always make sure you check the file hashes accordingly to make sure that they are indeed unmodified and untouched.

Link 1 (Torrent)

Link 2(RlsLog.net)

Link 3 (Rapidshare)

Check the Win 7 Hashes Here use a hash checking application. We recommend HashTab.
